Map settings and exports

The interactive tools keep recent settings in browser session storage so the same page can restore your choices during that session. Settings can include a selected place, projection, map center, title and highlights. They are not sent to an application database. Custom SVG and PNG exports are generated locally in the browser and saved only when you request a download.

Page sharing copies the ordinary page address. It does not include your current map settings or custom title. Older links that contain supported map-state fragments can be read once and then replaced with the clean page address.

Cached geographic files

Your browser may cache boundary files, terrain tiles and rendered terrain tiles. These caches reduce repeat downloads and allow the map to reuse completed imagery. They contain map assets rather than an uploaded profile. You can remove them using your browser’s controls for this site’s stored data. Clearing storage can also remove remembered map choices.

Storage is optional for using the maps. If the browser blocks it, the tools can operate without retaining settings between page visits. Availability during a network outage depends on which files the browser already has; the site does not promise a complete offline copy of the world.

Requests to the hosting service

Loading a page or map asset requires a request to the hosting service, which can process technical information such as an IP address, requested path and browser headers to deliver and protect the site. This is separate from the local map settings described above. The deployed service’s operational settings determine its logging and retention practices.

Google Analytics

This site loads Google’s Google Analytics tag with measurement ID G-KXD6GESQ47 to measure visits and site usage. The tag can use analytics cookies and sends usage information to Google. This is separate from map rendering and the settings held in browser session storage. The site does not deliberately send custom map titles or stored map settings as analytics event parameters.

External links and messages

Following a source link takes you to another website with its own policies. If you send email to the publisher, your email provider and the recipient’s provider process that message. Do not include sensitive information that is unnecessary for the enquiry. There is no on-site contact submission form.
