The maps are designed for explanation and general geographic comparison. Check the geographic model and the license attached to a resource before relying on or reusing it.
What the maps are intended for
Equal Earth Lab provides educational explanations, generalized world maps and comparisons based on a fixed geographic dataset. The interactive map is not a navigation chart, a survey, a live geographic service or a legal boundary record. Its area figures are boundary-model estimates under the documented methodology.
Projection choice changes how the world appears on a page. Equal Earth’s area property does not make every distance or angle accurate. A map’s cut, crop and label selection can also affect what is visible.
Files and original content
The geographic data, original compositions, articles and third-party software have distinct sources and terms. The sources page and each download’s license details identify the available information. A downloadable file does not by itself establish unrestricted rights to every part of that file.
Custom maps are generated in your browser from the settings you select. Review the title, projection, geographic scope and final file before including it in a publication. A source note helps your audience identify the map and its limitations.
External sources and changes
Links to sources provide supporting information; they do not imply endorsement by those organizations. External pages and datasets may change independently of this site’s fixed release. A substantive update should identify the affected content and preserve a traceable version record.
